Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo sent an inspirational video to the Red Devils U18 side ahead of their FA Youth Cup win over Nottingham Forest.
The club’s youth team clinched the title with a 3-1 win at Old Trafford on Wednesday night in front of a crowd of over 67,000.
Alejandro Garancho scored twice for United and Rhys Bennett also got involved – Josh Powell found the net for Forest in the evening. As the Red Devils lifted the trophy for the 11th time in their history, a number of high profile names were in attendance including Sir Alex Ferguson, as well as first-team players Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and David de Gea.
While Ronaldo himself was absent from the game, he did intervene before the game to ensure the club’s charges were properly prepared. According to the Manchester Evening News, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner sent a video message at the time.
The message was reportedly played in the dressing room before they stepped onto the pitch at Old Trafford and was reportedly very well received – the team lifted the trophy, of course.
After the game, Man United U18 head coach Travis Binnion praised the tremendous support throughout the game. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “[It feels] unbelievable]. I knew there was something special about being at this football club. We have been overwhelmed by the support and interest.

“I’m not often at a loss for words, but now a bit.”
While it was certainly an excellent night for the Red Devils’ young stars, it was also a brilliant month for Ronaldo. The Portuguese was named Premier League Player of the Month in April.
Despite United having won just one out of five games over the month, the 37-year-old still scored five goals, clinching his second monthly award of the season in the process – and sixth overall of his career.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus star will be eager to end his season on a positive note as United set their sights on their final Premier League game of the season. They will face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, where they will aim to secure sixth place and avoid relegation to the Europa Conference League.
So far this season, Ronaldo has scored 18 Premier League goals but is highly unlikely to be in contention for the Golden Boot with top scorer Mohamed Salah some distance ahead of him on 22 goals.
