The Metaverse – What does the future hold?

Roger James Hamilton, CEO and founder of Genius Group, predicts how the Metaverse will affect our lives

If you hear people talking about the Metaverse and wonder what the big deal is, it’s a 3D digital world that will soon replace the 2D internet. The Metaverse will create a virtual environment where you will connect, interact, manage deals and investments, in other words, it’s an augmented reality.

Will it really happen?

It’s nice! The fact that Facebook recently changed its name to “Meta” might be a good indication of this. Meta plans to design and build a virtual empire connected to the world we currently live in. In fact, Mark Zuckerberg predicted that the Metaverse would become mainstream in the next 5-10 years.

Although the Metaverse world is still under construction, the impact of COVID-19 has been a catalyst in creating a multi-layered digital world beyond the internet.

Not only Facebook is looking in this direction, other tech giants like Microsoft, Nvidia, Niantic and Unity have made big announcements that indicate they are embracing the concept and actively working towards a world of augmented reality.

I believe that the metaverse is our future and will change the way we live.

This new world will expand far beyond the world we know. We will have a digital twin of planet Earth where applications and processes can be simulated before being built in the real world. This will take what used to be Computer Aided Design (CAD) to another level and way beyond.

I see a future where every new building, infrastructure and advanced technology can be tested and improved before it is deployed in real time.

We will see that digital creators do more things in the metaverse than in the real world. Every industry and every company will be able to collaborate in real time using digital twins to better understand their operations, processes and people.

This isn’t just an idea without a foundation, it’s already underway.

  • BMW and Nvidia Omniverse have developed new simulation capabilities to help BMW make key decisions and automate the factory of the future.
  • Ericsson uses Nvidia Omniverse to build a digital twin environment to determine how each of its sites needs to be placed and configured to achieve the best coverage and network performance. By building city-scale models that are physically accurate down to the materials of the buildings to quickly calculate and visualize the quality of the signal at any point in the city.

This isn’t an imagined sci-fi future; The Metaverse will use digital technology to transform our reality into another dimension. We won’t see the Metaverse in High Definition or Ultra High Definition, but in reality-level definition.

How will it work?

We will have virtual reality glasses and headsets that will make it difficult to tell the difference between the real world and the digital world. This is the definition at the retinal level. You can even sleep in your VR goggles and wake up with no idea if what you are seeing is real or virtual.

Virtual reality glasses already exist, although currently they are only used by astronauts, car designers and fighter pilots. With improved computing power and affordable costs for these glasses, reality will merge with a lifelike digital metaverse through which we can teleport and time travel anytime, anywhere.

Cryptocurrencies have already gone digital and are now becoming mainstream. They only exist as digital code – and yet they have enormous value. The metaeconomy will escalate to create billionaires in the metaverse whose net worth will exceed the wealth of any billionaire today. Digital assets, virtual land and digital products open up a whole new world for us to rewrite the rules. The boom in NFTs is tied directly to the Metaverse

Digital objects can be easily bought and sold in the Metaverse – including art, collectibles, games, music, property and virtual land. As the metaverse becomes planet-sized and connected to our real world, NFTs, tokenization, digital property, and digital currencies will become the norm and we will begin to see everything connected to blockchain.

Be ready for a new world, life will take on a new dimension.
