Police smashed windows amid shouts of ‘armed police’ to arrest Russell after they tracked the madman to his hideout.

Russell killed three people in seven days, starting with his friend, David Williams, after the two had a disagreement.

Later, when David’s mother Julie asks Russell if he has seen her missing son, the ruthless killer helps her find him, despite the fact that he is already dead in the apartment. her all the time, Coventry direct reporting .

Anthony Russell, 39, of Riley Square, Coventry, was arrested. The jury found him guilty of three murders and three rapes.

He then violently assaults Julie, killing her in her home in a desperate attempt to hide his tracks.

Russell then fled his bloody crime in Coventry to the neighboring town of Leamington, where he befriended a young woman, Nicole McGregor, who told him she was five months pregnant.

Russell raped Nicole before strangling her to death, leaving her body in the park.

He then helped her boyfriend find her, in a sinister imitation of his earlier search with Julie to find her dead son David.

The police raid marks the end of one of the largest manhunts ever by the West Midlands Police as they seek to end Russell’s rampage of terror.

He continued to run – and police eventually found him in the car he had stolen two days earlier, in the early hours of 30 October last year in Staffordshire.

Speaking about the footage, Detective Chief Superintendent Shaun Edwards said: “This is a series of horrific violent attacks.

“Don’t forget that’s at the heart of this – that three people lost their lives and three were violently robbed and, again, left to die.

Russell also admitted to the October 26 murder of Nicole McGregor, 31, (pictured) who was found in the woods near Leamington Spa three days later

“Each of them, in their own way, are vulnerable people, from mental health, to illness, to age.”

He talks about the chain of events behind Russell’s ‘callous’ murder – starting with the murder of David Williams, the first of three in just seven days in October 2020.

“David Williams: he was an associate or friend of Russell, we don’t know exactly why he killed him, we think there must have been some sort of disagreement,” Det Supt Edwards said.

“David’s mother Julie: obviously worried about David, she hasn’t seen him. She goes to Russell and asks him if she’s seen David.

“Knowing that he was dead, he was actually dead in his apartment, he said he didn’t see him and actually helped Julie find him.

“Another callous way. But then we learn that he killed Julie to cover his tracks, again in a violent attack, leaving her dead in his home.

“We have since learned that he knew there was a murder investigation, and that he fled Coventry and went to Leamington. There, tragically, he befriended a young, vulnerable person. another injured, a pregnant woman, Nicole McGregor, he befriended her and killed her and left her body in the park.

Anthony Russell, 39, of Riley Square, Coventry, was unanimously found guilty on Thursday of raping Miss McGregor, after just one hour and 23 minutes of jury deliberation

Knowing they were dealing with an ‘extremely dangerous’ man, the force launched one of the largest manhunts ever to capture him, working with Warwickshire and Staffordshire to capture him.

CCTV played a key role in the case, with more than 9,000 hours spanning over six months summing up seven days of violence.

“He was an extremely dangerous person, he used extreme violence in all of his offenses,” the leadership official said.

“He showed no remorse – actually when he was questioned by the police he would not be interviewed, he had a blanket over his head and would not engage with the officers who were interviewing him. “

Russell has admitted to three murders, as well as three robberies, and injuring a robbery victim.

Today, he is also found guilty of raping his last victim, Nicole McGregor, on the day he killed her.

He will be sentenced tomorrow at Warwick Crown Court.
