The most expensive new car ever sold at auction sells for £8.7million as the amazing Bugatti Chiron Profilée goes under the hammer

THE most expensive new car to be sold at auction costs £8.7million and is an amazing Bugatti Chiron Profilée.

And this engine could be the last version of the French company’s hypercar, equipped with the massive W16 engine with four turbochargers.

Priced at €9.8m (£8.7m) including fees, the Bugatti Chiron Profilée has broken the record for the most expensive new car ever sold at auction.

When the gavel fell, the highest bid was a staggering €9,792,500, a fraction of £8.7 million.

The Chiron Profilée was sold by RM Sotheby’s at an auction in Paris on February 1st.

RM Sotheby’s said: “The last Bugatti to be sold with the legendary Bugatti Automobiles SAS W-16 quad-turbo engine”

While Bugatti’s Hypercar Chiron is rare in itself, with only 500 models produced, the Profilée is particularly special as it is a bespoke one-off production.

The fixed rear spoiler on this Chiron is unique to new Bugattis.

And the sticky alloy wheels were created just for the Profilée.

The pre-sale estimate of €4.2-5.5m (£3.74-4.89m) was more than doubled by the retail price of €9.8m (£8.7m).

The auction was the last opportunity to acquire a ‘new’ Chiron as the brand’s factory in France will soon cease production.

And all versions are already accounted for.

The engine of the Chiron Profilée develops a monumental output of 1,476 hp, can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 2.3 seconds and has an indicated top speed of 236 km/h.

Frank Heyl, deputy design director at Bugatti Automobiles, commented The Daily Mail: “At the customer’s request, we incorporate an elegant, fixed, swept tail that is both aerodynamically and thermodynamically optimized for the unparalleled performance available to the Chiron Profilée owner, while creating a graceful and timeless one in place of the Chiron’s hydraulic rear wing Form or the two meter wide fixed wing from Pur Sport.”

“We named it Profilée in honor of one of the first creations by Jean Bugatti, Bugatti Type 46 and Type 50, which also sported this elegant sweep in the rear.”
