A mother-of-two says her life was “shattered” by a Ukrainian refugee who stole her boyfriend after he gave her safe haven in the UK.

Lorna Garnett, 28, claims she had concerns about letting refugee woman Sofiia Karkadym into her Bradford West Yorks home with her longtime boyfriend Anthony.

But the mum said she became even more concerned when her new roommate started wearing “low-cut tops and red lipstick” around the house.

After two weeks, Lorna snapped and threw Sofiia out – but says she was devastated when her partner of eight left with Sofiia.

said Lorna The sun: “She had her sights set on Anthony from the start, decided she wanted him, and she took him.

“I just don’t understand how he could throw all that away for a woman he’s known for a fortnight. The life I knew is destroyed.”

The story even made headlines in Ukraine, when IT manager Sofiia and security guard Anthony posed for cameras and claimed they “can’t fight” their love for one another.

Tony signed up the government program to house refugees after the Russian invasion however, claimed he turned to social media to offer help when he found the application process too slow.

The father, who works in an NHS drop-in center, was introduced to Sofiia on Facebook and offered her to be her UK sponsor.

Sofiia traveled from Kyiv to Lviv, Poland and then on to Berlin before flying to Manchester Airport to meet Tony in early May after securing her visa in early May.

Tensions mounted within days as Tony and her new guest grew closer – as Lorna became increasingly suspicious that Sofiia wanted more than just a roof over her head.

Lorna’s regrets at opening up her rented home continued to grow as Sofiia “put on makeup, styled her hair and wore a low-cut top just around the time Tony got home from work.”

After packing his things to follow Sofiia, Lorna says that Tony and his new muse have started sharing a bed at his mother’s house.

He told Lorna they had fallen head over heels in love during a whirlwind romance and he wanted to start a new life with Sofiia, the heartbroken mother claims.

Lorna recalled that it “quickly became clear” that Sofiia was not interested in spending time with her and said communication between them had become difficult despite their “good English”.

Lorna added that she even took Sofiia shopping to help her choose new clothes, but soon noticed her guest rarely emerged from her room until Tony got home from work.

She claims Sofiia “put no effort into her looks” all day and didn’t do her make-up and style her hair until Tony returned.

A neighbor even warned Lorna she had seen Tony and Sofiia, who were “sensitive” and chatting confidentially, as they stood smoking together at the entrance to the family home.

The mum added: “By this point I had started to feel like the third wheel as they sat on the sofa laughing and joking while I was ignored. I suddenly felt unwelcome in my own home.”

Lorna – who changed her surname via deed poll but is not married to Tony – has now warned other families about the dangers of inviting a stranger into their home.

Warning others, Lorna claimed she would never stop anyone from helping Ukrainian refugees, but added that she didn’t want to see anyone endure this “devastating” ordeal.

Tony has apologized for the heartbreak but insisted he “never had love like this” with Sofiia as the couple admitted they fell in love at first sight.

Almost 54,000 refugees from Ukraine have arrived in the UK under government programmes.

Refugee Secretary Lord Harrington said: “We are doing everything we can to support newcomers.”
