The MultiVersus cinematic trailer ignores that Iron Giant isn’t a weapon, the open beta is coming this July

A new theatrical trailer for MultiVersus has dropped, revealing two new characters and an open beta coming this July.

Potential MultiVersus players can already register to take part in the closed alpha test, which begins on May 19th. But for those who aren’t attending or don’t feel like signing up, there’s an open beta sometime in July. The open beta was announced along with a theatrical trailer that notably revealed the addition of two new characters: the Tasmanian Devil and the cutest robot there is, the Iron Giant.

Since it’s a theatrical trailer, nothing special has been revealed in terms of gameplay. But it did give us some fun pairings, like the caped crusader Batman and the endlessly hungry Shaggy. The trailer also shows Shaggy powering up Goku-style and delivering a pretty powerful punch to the hilarious Bugs Bunny.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Taz’s revelation hooks him up with Harley Quinn, which doesn’t seem to bother him much. More shenanigans follow before Superman shows up and claims the mess looks like a job for him before he’s cut off by none other than famed Superman fan Iron Giant. Although this one feels a bit mean, after all the Iron Giant is not a weapon.

Unveiled back in November, MultiVersus is clearly meant to be Warner Bros. vs. Smash Bros. MultiVersus’ unique selling point is that it focuses on co-op gameplay, where players work together to defeat their opponents and offers unique moves specifically related to the co-op element.

There will apparently be single player options, but in general, pairing different Warner Bros. IPs seems to be the main thing the game wants to do. A full release is not yet in sight, but developers are Player First Games worked closely with members of the fighting game community to get it right in early alpha testing. And with a studio name like that, one would assume their concerns and criticisms would be heard. However, whenever it is released, it will be free to play.
