With profane Since this is a sandbox and players have a lot of control over their own travels, player contributions to space are important, and they plan how to support player-made locations and how everyone can participate in shaping the world.
In some of the shared concepts we see an altar in the center of settlements. Altars are something you will want to build when starting a settlement as they unlock both the Protection Zone and the Domination Zones.

The first shows the size of your guild’s dominion over the land and lets you do things like set taxes and other rules. The second means you can extend protection to all buildings within a given zone, so they don’t just have to rely on individual protections. This protection also applies offline, giving your settlements and cities a passive defense that you can build up. The protection, the scope of which has yet to be determined, only applies to buildings inside, so plan how you can protect yourself and others.
If you set up a protection zone, you can also build walls, but they will not be protected in them, since again this only applies to buildings. Walls aren’t unprotected, however, as you can support them individually, much like buildings. While you’ve applied a zone to buildings, you still want to protect them individually to add layers. Walls are meant to have multiple layers of defense before attackers can invade and endanger your settlement (and altar).
When it comes to settlements and cities, you can build a trading post and other helpful features in your guild’s holdings (Domination Zone). This could include things like watchtowers, lumber mills, mines, or even training facilities. It’s up to you how deep you want to go in the name of production and protection.
