A nine-year-old girl was fatally shot in Liverpool and two others are hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
Officers began a murder investigation after visiting a house on Kingsheath Avenue, Knotty Ash, at 10pm after reports said an unidentified man fired a gun at the property, Merseyside Police said.
The nine-year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she later died.
A man also sustained gunshot wounds to his body and a woman sustained a gunshot wound to her hand during the incident at the home, the force added. Both were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The force said house-to-house, CCTV and forensic investigations are currently underway while a cordon is also in place.
Deputy Police Commissioner Jenny Sims said: “This is a truly shocking incident where a young and innocent girl was tragically shot and killed and sadly died.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends at this very difficult time. No parent should ever have to suffer the loss of a child under these horrible circumstances.
“This crime is heinous and our communities need to come forward and tell us who is responsible.
“This cowardly person doesn’t deserve to take to the streets and I would urge those who know anything to speak to us and tell us what they know so we can put the person responsible behind bars where they are.” belong.
“We are urgently conducting a series of inquiries and would request dash cam, CCTV or cell phone footage of anyone who lived, worked or visited the Kingsheath Avenue area last night.”
