The must-have WhatsApp hack instantly improves your favorite texting app

WHATSAPP has a clever hack that instantly makes the app much more secure and private.

The chat app contains some of our most personal conversations – so it’s important to keep the content private.

A common mistake is to hold on Whatsapp Message preview displayed.

This means that the text is clearly visible when it appears as a notification.

If someone can see your phone, they can read your new texts.

Thankfully, it’s easy enough to fix.

Go to WhatsApp, go to Settings and then Notifications.

Now turn off Show Preview to prevent this.

Speak in code

That’s not the only feature WhatsApp has to protect your privacy.

For the beginning, it is end-to-end encrypted – which prevents hackers (or the government) from reading your texts during transmission.

If an unencrypted message is read as it is sent, it is visible to a hacker in plain text.

But an encrypted message would be completely muddled and impossible to translate.

WhatsApp makes it so that only the sender and the recipient have the key to read the message.

And each new conversation with a different person generates a different key phrase.

“End-to-end encrypted chats have their own security code that is used to verify that the calls and the messages you send to that chat are end-to-end encrypted,” WhatsApp said.

“You can find this code on the contact info screen, both as a QR code and as a 60-digit number.

“These codes are unique to each chat and can be compared between people in each chat to verify that the messages you send to the chat are end-to-end encrypted.

“Security codes are just visible versions of the special key you share – and don’t worry, it’s not the actual key itself that’s always kept secret.”

Lock it up

You can also Set WhatsApp to have its own lock screen.

This means if you give someone your phone to use for a short time, they will not be able to access your WhatsApp.

To set this up you need to go to your WhatsApp settings.

Then click on “Account” and then on “Privacy”.

From here you can either turn on the “Screen lock” using Touch ID or Face ID at iPhone.

You can also select a duration when the ID will be required again.

Now when you open the app, you will be asked for your fingerprints or a picture of your face to verify that you are really reading your private chats.

You can still read and quickly reply to messages in your notification window, so the tool isn’t foolproof.

You can also receive WhatsApp calls.
