The New Year (Esther Onabanjo-Christs Hospital)

The Christmas holidays are a time many people use to see friends and visit families without the burden of work or school on their shoulders. Some people also travel just for fun, to see what’s out there in the world. One of those must-buy spots is a famous beach in Lagos, Nigeria called “Landmark”. Despite being a beach, it is packed with various activities available for all ages, as well as a wide variety of food options.

Upon entering you are greeted with soft sand and blue water as far as the eye can see. For safety reasons (similar to many UK beaches) you cannot swim past a certain point, but games such as water volleyball are encouraged to compensate. To add to the fun of splashing around in the sea, the beach offers the opportunity to go jet skiing, with prices starting at around £18 depending on how long you want to go. If you’re looking for a more relaxed way of looking at the water, you can also take a cruise (private booking available) with prices starting from around £9. You can even go fishing for an extra charge!

Several lifeguards are also constantly present in the area to ensure no injuries occur and everyone continues to have fun.

If the water isn’t your style at all, the beach offers many other fun activities, including soccer (on an AstroTurf), basketball, mini-golf, paintball, ATV riding, volleyball, and even a dedicated club just for kids, and fun activities await inside ( wall climbing, trampolines and more).

If you’ve all had your fun and need to rest your feet, don’t worry as the beach offers dozens of benches and mini huts for you to relax. Servers also drop by and offer food and refreshments. If you don’t like these, unfortunately you can’t bring your own food, but there are rows of different stalls from big brands like KFC to smaller indulgent fare like tacos. “The atmosphere was good, good food, everything was good. Nice weather with a nice ocean[…] The quads were cheaper than I thought for the quality on offer and the fireworks really ended the night.” — Amid Olundegun (a Landmark visitor)

Landmark is the perfect place to cool off in the Nigerian heat and have fun with your family. Not only is it known for its fun atmosphere, but it is also known to host concerts from time to time. Landmark really is one of those places you have to visit before it’s too late.
