YOUTUBE makes it easier to jump to the most popular parts of the videos you’re watching.
The US streaming giant on Wednesday rolled out a feature for all users showing the “most played” parts of clips.
The graphical indicator appears behind the red progress bar at the bottom of the YouTube player.
“If the graph is high, that part of the video has been played a lot,” YouTube said.
“You can use the graph to quickly find and watch those moments.”
The feature is especially useful for longer videos where you’re only interested in a specific moment.
It also provides markers for clips that have not been divided into sections using timestamps or chapters.
The feature was previously available to YouTube Premium subscribers but has now rolled out to all users.
It’s available on desktop and YouTube’s Android and iOS apps.
The tool is one of several changes YouTube has rolled out over the past few months.
They include a new ability to loop specific parts of videos and a “Chapters” feature that allows creators to split videos into chunks.
An experiment for premium subscribers will apparently allow users to “find that exact moment in a video that you want to see”.
YouTube is also expanding the type of content people can watch on its platform.
In March, YouTube announced that it would be expanding its catalog of free movies and TV shows.
“More and more people are choosing to experience YouTube with friends and family on the big screen,” the company wrote on its blog.
“And now, for the first time, US viewers can watch full seasons of TV shows on YouTube with ads for free,” they added.
YouTube’s move is likely an attempt to compete with streaming giants like Netflix, which revealed earlier this year that they were dropping hundreds of new original content.
There are currently 360 movies and 100 shows free to stream with ads on YouTube, according to TechRadar.
Hit films from Lionsgate, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros make the list.
Some popular titles are Legally Blond, Runaway Bride, and Gone in Sixty Seconds.
If you’re into series, you can also stream hit shows like Hell’s Kitchen, Scream Queens, Heartland, and Unsolved Mysteries.
