Crystal Dynamics has announced the next one Tomb Raider The game is based on the Unreal Engine 5.

Announced today alongside the release of Unreal Engine 5, the next game in the series will be built using Epic’s technology instead of Crystal’s proprietary engine.

“Crystal Dynamics is proud to be a part of the launch of Unreal Engine 5,” said Dallas Dickinson, GM of Crystal Dynamics. “This new engine enables storytelling and gameplay experiences at the highest level. And that’s why we’re excited to announce today that we’ve just started development of our next Tomb Raider game powered by Unreal Engine 5.

“Our goal is to push the limits of fidelity and deliver the high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience that fans of both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise deserve.”

In the very early stages of development, as we last heard, the game will unify the timelines. While the Origin trilogy told the story of Lara’s early days as she was forged into a survivor, a heroine and finally a tomb raider, the classic games featured a skilled and competent adventurer.

According to game director Will Kerslake, the team envisions the next game after the “established adventures” — from Core Design’s first game to the latest game released by Crystal Dynamics.

In addition to the next Tomb Raider, the studio is also working on the Xbox-exclusive Perfect Dark in collaboration with Xbox studio The Initiative.

Of course, Crystal Dynamics also continues work on its live service game Marvel’s Avengers, which recently received a patch that brought with it a revamped War Table that promises to streamline missions and improve the overall user experience.
