The conflict between neighbors over a noisy incident has been resolved after nearly 20 years. In 2003, four brothers installed a toilet in a beachfront apartment in Golfo dei Poeti, off the northwest coast of Italy. The husband and wife who lived next door complained, claiming that the building’s noisy discharge of water kept them awake at night. When the warring parties refused to back down, the case was heard in court, the court of appeal and then the Supreme Court of Italy, which ruled in favor of the couple. The Italian newspaper Il Giornale writes: “In a much shorter time than this case, Albert Einstein wrote the theory of relativity, which explains the entire Universe. “At the judicial level, we are a huge, massive company that is congested.”
A remarkable ‘DI-Fly’ project
An Essex man and his family beat boredom by building their own four-seat turboprop from scratch. Ashok Aliseril, a trained engineer and pilot, and his wife and two children spent nearly two years building the plane with just manuals and YouTube videos for instructions. The entire project cost £155,000 and took 1,500 hours to complete.
Academics ‘fired because she had a loud voice’
A senior practitioner who claims she lost her position at a university’s physics department because of her loud voice has been awarded more than £100,000 after winning an unfair dismissal claim. Dr Annette Plaut told The Guardian she had a “naturally loud voice” and claimed it was a combination of her being “woman and loud” that led to her being fired from the University of Exeter. During the hearing, Plaut was described as a “Marmite” character – liked by some but considered too much by others.
