Earlier this evening, the National Lottery website and app went down, leaving thousands of people unable to purchase tickets online on their “must-win” draw night.

The huge jackpot has been spinning since June 9 and won’t end until the end of this week, but users are still frustrated that they can’t buy virtual tickets.

One Twitter user said: “How can you win the lottery if the server is down?”

Another added: “The Lotto app has been down for the past hour, on a big night.”

On their website, a Lotto spokesperson said: “Due to high traffic, we are experiencing technical difficulties with some features. Thanks for your patience.

“If you continue to have trouble logging in, please arrive at your local lottery retailer by 19:45.” The numbers for tonight’s must-win lottery jackpot break a record 19 million euros
