The O2 Priority app and website crash as Peter Kay fans search for tickets with ‘highest demand in 15 years’

O2 Priority’s website and app have crashed due to high demand for tickets to the Peter Kay show.

The network said it was experiencing “unprecedented demand” for the comedian’s massive return after a 12-year absence.

The first tickets were released on the app at 10am on Thursday, but many failed to load as the system collapsed under pressure.

Virgin Media O2 said it was “by far the highest demand we’ve seen for any priority ticket in 15 years”.

“Sorry, we’re working on it,” the company told distraught fans.

“Please be patient.”

Peter, 49, is embarking on his first stand-up tour in 12 years and yesterday announced a monthly residency at London’s O2 Arena, where he will be performing every month for a year starting next month.

“1 hour and 20 minutes later… still can’t get tickets to Peter Kay,” one frustrated customer wrote on Twitter.

“Thanks, O2 have been trying to get Peter Kay tickets for 2 hours and still can’t even log into the priority app or website let alone get tickets. Smoking,” said another.

He will be the first artist in the world to perform at The O2 in London each month.

The residency runs from December 16 to November 18, 2023.

Peter, famous for hit TV shows Car Share, Phoenix Nights and Max and Paddy, had largely disappeared from public view for the past four years.

His announcement over the weekend confirms The Sun’s exclusivity in May, which revealed the star would be returning with a major tour of venues across the country.

Bolton-born Kay, 49, starts with two nights on December 2nd and 3rd at the AO Arena in Manchester.

O2 and Virgin Media customers can use the O2 Priority app to get early tickets to special events.

General ticket sales are scheduled to open at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

“We are seeing a lot of priority tickets for Peter Kay being sold to O2 and Virgin Media customers across the UK,” Virgin Media told O2.

“Sorry if you haven’t had success yet, but keep trying.

“Our advance sale lasts up to 48 hours.”
