The outback town requires all residents to delete their APPENDIX

Located at Chile’s Frei base on King George Island, Villas has about 100 residents at most, mostly researchers and military personnel.

But to live in a remote town, people have to have their appendix removed, according to BBC.

Those on long-term contracts forced entire families to take out their addendum just to settle down with them in the refuge.

The town consisted of a post office, a small school, a bank and other basic facilities.

With the nearest hospital about 625 miles from the northernmost tip of the island, contracting appendicitis can be fatal as the condition can be life-threatening if not treated immediately, which is why why people are asked to remove the appendix, according to Mirror.

Limited health care is also why people discourage pregnancy during their stay.

It was not the only sacrifice the inhabitants made.

In winter, residents are asked to stay indoors or risk freezing to death as temperatures can drop below 77C.

Sergio Cubillos, commander of Chile’s local air force, said this winter people could not leave their homes “for weeks”.

In the summer, temperatures peak at a dismal 2C.

Dogs are also banned to prevent them from spreading disease to local wildlife.

Despite the harsh environment, the settlement also boasts tourist-friendly attractions like the penguins, which are known to be very friendly.

Tourists can also enjoy skiing expeditions and sleigh rides and there’s internet – although it’s dedicated to the school’s three computers.
