A UK plumber has shared two clever hacks people can use to lower their electricity bills every month.

Waseem Hussain showed off two simple boiler settings adjustments to keep costs down in a TikTok video that has garnered over two million views so far.

He recommends making changes to your hot water temperature and turning off another setting that has sometimes been unknowingly turned on. WalesOnline Reports.

His clip is specifically about Vaillant products, but the plumber says the same modifications can be made to combi boilers like Worcester, Baxi, Ideal, Ferroli and other manufacturers.

First, Waseem says that you should find the hot water (DHW) setting on your boiler and turn it down as much as possible by pressing the minus button.

One of the tricks is to lower the domestic hot water temperature

He advised viewers to set it to around 50C, then leave the bathtub faucet running and test the temperature.

“If that’s warm enough, leave it at that,” he said. “If it’s still too hot, go further down. The lower you achieve this value, the more fuel you save.”

The plumber’s second tip is to turn off “comfort mode,” a setting that allows the water to be preheated, meaning hot water comes out of the tap when you need it. To do this, navigate back to the hot water settings and press the button on the right twice, which will take you to the comfort mode controls.

To turn comfort mode on and off, users must press the plus sign and then “OK”.

Waseem said, “Those are the two things I would advise you to do to save on gas.”

On its page, the TikToker with the @plumbingdoctors handle also demonstrates how to make these changes to other types of boilers.

He added: “It’s not recommended to lower the temperature below 60°C on systems with stored hot water, but it’s fine with combi boilers as they don’t store water.”

With energy prices up 54% in April, Waseem’s video has resonated with people trying to cut their bills.

“Practical tip for saving fuel,” wrote one user.

“Thanks for that. I turned my temperature down a few months ago and didn’t know about comfort mode,” added another person.

Another wrote: “Do it now.”

Another viewer commented: “I have this boiler! I will do it! Thanks for the tip, every little bit helps,” wrote another person.

Some have expressed concern about Legionnaires’ disease, a pneumonia that can be caused by things like boilers, air conditioners, faucets, showers and hot tubs. Legionella bacteria that cause the disease multiply between 20°C and 45°C

However, Waseem claims that even with reduced water temperatures, the risk of Legionnaires’ disease is extremely low with combi boilers because they keep the water moving rather than storing it.
