The police officer touched a colleague’s privates and shouted, “It’s a small one”

Although the officer claimed the breach was just “banter”, a panel found PC Adam Reed guilty of gross misconduct and banned him from ever working in the police force again

A police officer has been sacked for touching a colleague’s penis and yelling “he’s small” – before claiming it was “banter”.
PC Adam Reed has been summarily dismissed from Wiltshire Police after a five-day misconduct hearing that ended on Friday (June 17).
Reed admitted to pulling down the parole officer’s pants zipper, inserting his hand to make contact with his penis and shouting “it’s a small one” in front of colleagues at a police station.
Reed argued that it was “banter” and constituted misconduct rather than gross misconduct, which would result in his dismissal.
But a misconduct committee, overseen by an independent Legally Qualified Chair (LQC), ruled that Reed’s behavior was gross misconduct. He was summarily dismissed and banned from working as a police officer anywhere else in the UK.
The victim – referred to as Officer X at the hearing – said he was “hurt” by Reed, with whom he spoke only occasionally and never worked directly.

Officer X started as a full-time police officer in October 2021 and the incident happened about a month later, on November 15.
Wiltshire Police Deputy Chief Constable Paul Mills said: “The actions of former Police Constable Adam Reed were not only totally inappropriate, they violated the dignity of his colleague and would have caused him considerable suffering.
“His actions amounted to undesirable sexual conduct and the LQC’s decision to fire Adam Reed from Wiltshire Police has the full support of the Police.
“He will now be placed on the national ban list which will ensure he cannot work in the police force in the future.
“There is no place in Wiltshire Police for someone who behaves like this and on learning of this incident the officer was immediately suspended from the organisation.
“The actions of this person will undoubtedly cause public concern and likely undermine the work of the exceptionally dedicated members of our organization who strive to provide outstanding service to the communities they serve.
“Wiltshire Police remain committed to ensuring that every single officer and staff member performs their duties to the highest standards and as this case demonstrates we will act quickly and robustly when these are not being met.
“In addition, if any member of the community has any concerns about the professionalism of those who serve within our organization, we would encourage them to speak up as soon as possible.
“The victim in this case continues to receive the full support of the organization.”
