The Portal Remake will be free for fans – and it’s coming next week

NVIDIA recently announced a new version of Portal designed exclusively for high-end PCs.
Portal was originally released in 2007 and is often considered one of the most popular games of all time.
A puzzle platformer with an interesting twist where players use a portal gun to find creative solutions to work their way through rooms.
The next version starts on December 8th and will be free DLC for those who own the original on Steam.
Those who don’t own it on Steam but are hoping to play the latest version can now buy the original for 85p (99¢).
Dubbed Portal with RTX, the new version features modern graphical updates, most notably full ray tracing.

The game serves as a demo for NVIDIA’s latest technology, which can update the graphics of older games.
Anyone who owns a GeForce RTX Series 40 graphics card will also be able to play the classic game with 2.8 times the performance.
John Spitzer, head of Lightspeed Studios for NVIDIA, announced the new update.
He said: “Updating popular games requires a balance between applying new, cutting-edge techniques and maintaining the original spirit of the game.
“NVIDIA’s Lightspeed Studios experience working on RTX versions of well-known games like Minecraft and Quake II gave Valve the confidence to entrust us to bring modern graphics techniques to their iconic game.
“NVIDIA RTX Remix gave us the perfect tool to accomplish this task.”
Series 40 is NVIDIA’s top-of-the-line graphics card, priced between £1,269 and £1,699.
The new title will continue to run on NVIDIA’s cheaper Series 30 models, which are much cheaper at under £400.
However, these users will not get all the benefits offered by the updated series of graphics cards.
Still, it’s an interesting achievement and we’re excited to see how the classic game performs on modern hardware.
