Following the Queen’s death, we look back at the visits the monarch paid to Sussex during her 70-year reign.
These pictures show the Queen visiting Sussex with Prince Philip in 2013, a year after her Diamond Jubilee.
In October 2013, she was seen greeting hundreds of adoring well-wishers. Your tour consisted of four stops.
Her and the Duke of Edinburgh’s first stop was West Quays Fisheries in Newhaven.
The couple were flown in by helicopter around 10.30am before being given a tour of West Quay Fisheries.
They then spoke briefly to well-wishers before being driven to the next stop on their Sussex tour.
Fisheries chief Ian Bickerstaff, who showed the couple around, said: “What a lovely couple.
“They were so interested in the fish and asked where they came from and when they were caught.
“It was an honor to have her here.”
The next stop was Harvey’s Brewery in Lewes, where they were given a tour by Mr. Jenner and Hamish Elder, seventh generation Harvey family members.
Mr Jenner said staff were “enormously proud” to have been selected by the Palace to take part.
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh later honored the YHA South Downs Hostel in Beddingham, near Newhaven, to officially open the new £5million centre.
Prince Philip was particularly interested in the ‘glamping’ pods – aka glamorous camping – before asking kids about mosquitoes.
He asked, “Is there much trouble with mosquitoes when sleeping there?”
But Her Majesty soon corrected him: “Not at this time of year there won’t be,” she laughed.
Her Majesty officially opened The Keep near Falmer which is home to archives and historical resources from East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.
Archivists showed the royal delegation maps of Sussex dating back to 179, historical images of Eastbourne before it became a holiday resort.
Senior Archivist Chris Whittick said: “Both took a keen interest in what he had shown them and made extremely perceptive comments.
“We tried to select interesting but not too personal documents. I think we found the right balance.”
The last visit Her Majesty paid to our county was in November 2017 when she visited the Chichester Festival Theater to see a performance by the Chichester Festival Youth Theater and songs by Fiddler on the Roof.
