The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is now complete and the ceremonies are over, but mysteries and little-known secrets are still surfacing – from lipreading findings to leaked family tensions.
And it turned out there was a secret in the monarch’s outfit, as on Sunday she wore a chic green coat with a distinctive black pin on her hat Hi! reports.
Many were amused by the pin and wondered why it was there and what its purpose was – was it purely decorative or did it serve a function?
As it turns out, the black clasp was actually a mourning pin, which the Queen used to pay tribute to her late husband, Prince Philip, during the remarkable four-day celebration of their platinum anniversary.

The Queen wore the pin during her last appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
The black mourning pin was attached to the front and center of her hat, contrasting with the elegant emerald green that matched her coat.
She also wore pearl earrings, a matching necklace and white gloves.
Her Majesty completed the look with a diamond bow brooch which is also meaningful. Carrying a long family history, it is one of a trio of different sizes with the same design worn by the Queen to poignant royal occasions.
The focus, however, was her mourning pin. For most of her 70-year reign, the Queen was supported by Prince Philip, who died on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99. Mourning pins are usually worn by members of the royal family after a death.
