The renovation of a new branch points the way to a more sustainable future

Leaders Letting and Estate Agents lives up to its name when it comes to the company’s commitment to sustainability and being carbon neutral by 2030.

A leader in name, the company is now a leader in action, opening its first ever sustainable store in Brighton.

And the location in Kemptown is of particular importance as the new sustainable branch is on the very same site where Leaders Letting and Estate Agents opened their first Brighton branch 40 years ago.

Sustainability at the heart of the recent renovation

The new store in St George’s Road, Kemptown has been designed with sustainability at the heart of the development and we are delighted that the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Lizzie Deane, has been able to officially open the newly refurbished store.

“As part of our goal to be a carbon neutral company by 2030, this facility will be the blueprint for the rest of our future offices,” said David Wilson, Chief Operating Officer at LRG.

Sustainable attributes include

  • 100% powered by renewable energy
  • Doors, skirting boards, partitions and worktops made from locally produced FSC-certified wood
  • All furniture is made from recycled or upcycled materials and is recycled or upcycled at the end of its life cycle
  • Chairs are made from 100% recycled fabric in a closed production process, with 25% of the raw material coming from the brand’s own recycled waste streams
  • Time-controlled lighting, air conditioning and heating are equipped so that no electricity is wasted
  • Solar foil lines the main street-facing windows to reflect heat and reduce electricity demand
  • Low flow kitchen faucets save 30-50% of water consumption
  • The carpet is made from 65% post-industrial recycled material and the supplier will reuse and recycle it when it reaches the end of its life.

Mr Wilson added: “The real estate industry has a key role to play in mitigating the devastating effects of climate change. We already know that more renters and homeowners are prioritizing green home improvements to limit personal carbon emissions and it is important that this trend is replicated at the industry level.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of greener property management and developing a sustainable approach to business and property. It is time for the real estate industry to face the next big challenge and step up its efforts to make the industry greener.”

Alongside sustainable branches and renewable energy, LRG’s green roadmap also includes planting 16,000 trees by 2023 in partnership with GreenTheUK and a zero landfill strategy.
