A RESTAURANT boss lashed out at a customer who threatened a bad review unless he paid his traffic fine.
Sam Morgan said he needed laying down after reading the complaint, describing it as the “next stage”.
His diner was fined for getting into a bus lane on his way to the fine dining restaurant Divide in Birmingham.
They blamed the website’s directions to a nearby parking lot and accused bosses of “extremely poor customer service” for failing to advise that the route was near a bus lane.
They added: “All sane restaurants would take that kind of care and attention to ensure their customers are aware of such matters!!!
“We had a lovely day and the meal is now completely ruined by this situation.”
Mr Morgan, from About Dining chain, which owns Divide, replied: “First let me apologize for the delay in replying. I had to lie down after reading our email.
“I’ll just decline your offer to pay the bus lane fee, but I’ll get you an annual pass on the bus.
“I believe there are many benefits to doing so including the environment and the safety of the general public as your inability to drive properly could have serious consequences.
“Good day. I’m taking the bus to work now.”
The diner replied, “I assume you find the whole situation amusing. Let’s see if you find it funny when I post a negative review on Google or TripAdvisor.
“Your response is so poor in terms of customer service that an offer to pay half might have been acceptable.
“It’s going to cost you more if you get negative press from the review, so you might want to reconsider.”
Mr Morgan accused them of pointlessly arming review sites.
He said Birmingham Live: “We are familiar with guests who complain.
“Some are real, some are just bloody ridiculous, and this was the latter. I just find it hilarious.
“I’m not the kind of person who would just accept that review sites behaving and arming themselves are pointless.
“My responsibility is good food, drink and service, it’s not about holding people’s hands.”
