Remember the Halcyon days when the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy dominated theaters and made going to the movies an experience all over again? I’m sure it is, which is why I am annoyed to report that the upcoming Prime Video series “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will have the first two episodes shown. in theaters prior to its online release.
If you’re ready to head back to Middle-earth, the new series set in the world created by JRR Tolkien will screen the first two episodes during worldwide fan events on August 31, 2022. Theater chain Cinemark will run a night-only event and have created a website for the screenings. Accordingly, tickets will be available for purchase at 9 a.m. PT on August 22, 2022, and tickets will also include a $10 snack voucher, sure to make the journey back to the Mountain Your Doom gets a little sweeter.
Here’s the catch, though: The “LOTR” event is only available to members of Cinemark Movie Rewards, the chain’s loyalty program. However, there are both paid and free subscription tiers, so if you want to get the benefits without the price tag, there are options for you. But never fear the show will launch Prime Video just two days after enhanced screenings on September 2, 2022, so even if you don’t show up for the movie, you’ll still get the fix.” LOTR” within the appropriate time.
Amazon will also show the series outside of the US and Canada, with screenings booked in theaters in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and Colombia to date. Based on DiversityThe event will span around 200 locations worldwide.
Drums of excitement
There’s no denying that the “Lord of the Rings” fandom is a vibrant and noisy group. In fact, their legacy goes back many years to the early days of what we usually call the fandom, and they have always been hailed as one of the early groups to reach the fanatical heights that are so popular today. popular among “stans” (in case you haven’t noticed, that word comes from the Eminem fan culture song “Stan”).
With this in mind, Amazon seems to be pushing as much marketing as possible with “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” They’ve done a number of poster and trailer drops – as well as a huge dedicated panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con – and now, they’ve hosted this enhanced global screening to collect lures new and old “LOTR” fans back to the vast and intricate head space these deep fantasy stories demand. Hopefully this translates into massive viewership for the series, which will move into a weekly classic episode release after dropping the original two episodes in line with global fan events.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will premiere on Prime Video on September 2, 2022.
