The royal photographer, who met with Queen two days before the death, reveals what she said to her

A Press Association photographer shared her latest conversation with the Queen just two days before her death.

PA photographer Jane Barlow took the last public photos of Britain’s longest-serving monarch as she met new Prime Minister Liz Truss in Balmoral.

Jane, a royal photographer for six years, said the Queen was “frail” but “in a good mood”.

She said: “I received so many nice comments about the picture. It is a real privilege to be able to take this picture, an honor and a privilege. It’s the same with many of our jobs.

“I was there to photograph her meeting the new Prime Minister, but for me the best picture was of the Queen alone. And it has obviously gained importance now.”

While waiting for the Conservative leader to arrive in the Queen’s Highlands, Barlow took some portraits.

In true British fashion, the weather was talked about, with dark skies and heavy rain overhead for much of the day.

But Barlow, who has been a permanent photographer at the PA news agency in Scotland for six years, said of the Queen: “I got a lot of smiles from her.”

Regarding the Queen, she added: She definitely looked more fragile than she did in the summer when I photographed her. When she came to Holyrood Week back then, they told me she was going to do one engagement, maybe two, but she’s done quite a lot that week.”
