The sales unit in Churchill Square in Brighton is about to undergo changes

THE FUTURE of a premier city center retail unit has been confirmed as a new company takes over the site.

In the former JD Sports store on the corner of Churchill Square in Brighton, four retailers have occupied the space since 2016, but there are hopes a redevelopment could bring recent success.

IWG will create a mix of co-working and meeting spaces in the former store, its third location in the city.

Mark Buchanan-Smith, Center Director for Churchill Square, said: “With the rapidly growing demand for hybrid work solutions, we are delighted to adapt one of our spaces to meet the evolving needs of local people looking for a professional workspace.

“Brighton is a vibrant center with Churchill Square centrally located providing a convenient place to shop, eat and work within close proximity to Brighton’s other attractions.”

The 7,000 square foot unit will operate under IWG’s Spaces branding.

IWG said the Churchill Square location will give people the opportunity to work in an “affordable and productive” place.

“We are excited to help revitalize underutilized spaces, generate economic activity and create better solutions that support hybrid working with the opening of this new center,” said Mark Dixon, CEO and Founder of IWG.

“For several decades, we have been at the forefront of hybrid work, empowering people to be more productive and more convenient.

“We are delighted to be expanding in Brighton and continuing to support residents in finding ways to be productive and flexible.”

IWG’s two current Brighton locations have seen a 35 per cent increase in usage over the past six months, the company said.

The newest office is a “major milestone” in the company’s strategy to transform disused city center retail space into “living” workspaces.

“As more people choose to work in a way that fits their lifestyle, prioritizing convenience and flexibility, IWG continues to expand to meet this demand and plans to open 1,000 new centers in 2022 alone open,” said a spokesman.

An opening date for Spaces at Churchill Square has not yet been confirmed.
