A DIY-savvy mum has revealed her bathroom makeover after spending just £30 to bring the ‘boring and dated’ room up to her stylish standards.

Essex’s Abi Hugo transformed her bathroom into her own slice of paradise upcycled furniture from other do-it-yourself projects she had taken on and managed to complete the entire renovation in just 24 hours.

The 32 year old mummy described her Property as “modern chic,” but said it’s important to give her bathroom some “serious TLC” to bring it up to the high standard of the rest of her home.

She said: “This transformation was definitely up there as it made a massive difference to the space which I found to be very boring and not very comfortable at first.

“The whole transformation only took 24 hours because when I’m excited about an idea and I see it in my head, I just have to make it happen. It just started with me painting the radiator and seeing how it went, and then one thing led to another and I kind of didn’t go to bed until 2 in the morning.”

Abi, who has over 111,000 followers Instagram Account @thewhitethistlecompleted most of the refurbishment for free, spending just £30 on some Dunelm easy peel and stick floor tiles to cover her bare bathroom floor.

She then painted the walls with leftover paint and replaced the bathroom countertop with spare wood. She also used other upcycling tips to create a stylish wood panel wall behind the bathroom mirror.

She added, “The Reno was basically free! I used leftover stuff from the other rooms I’ve upcycled in my house, so including leftover wood and paint.

“The only thing I bought was the Dunelm peel and stick floor tiles which were £14 a pack and I brought two so just under £30. I’m talking about the budget renovation!”

Although Abi loves the luxe look, she says there’s nothing like grabbing a bargain and said she’s always thinking about how to breathe new life into old things.

And when it comes to finding inspiration for her DIY projects, Abi says most of her ideas come from browsing Pinterest, as she says research is “key” to finding the best deals.

She explained: “In interior design, I really appreciate organic styles and fibers, bringing natural elements into your space to add texture to your home. I love putting a modern twist on the classic style with my love of neutrals, but adding contrast with black accents really makes the room stand out.

“Use Pinterest for a mood board because it will really help you solidify your desired look and help you plan before you go.

“Also I would say research is key, look at your decorating style and if you come across a product you love like a lamp or something, one of my top tips is to use it Google Reverse image search, where Google shows all the places where the product is found and you may be able to find the product cheaper elsewhere.”

The mum also shared her tips for others who want to get involved in a DIY project themselves – when she suggested sticking to a theme and using what you already have at your disposal.

She said: “When you find a theme for your house and a color palette that you love and want to work with, your house will flow and instead of going out and buying a new tin you can just repurpose paint and wood and decor.” from all over the house to bring everything together so it flows really nicely.

“I made sure my paint colors were soft and neutral throughout. I decided to use wood as accents to make my wall a highlight, so I added wood scraps around my mirror in the process, which was very quick.

“Just have fun with it! Color can always be painted over, so don’t think too much.

“With DIY, since it’s such a step-by-step process, you really can’t go wrong because if it went that way, you’ll know before you get to the next step, so just have fun with it and.” Try it!”
