An electric car company has unveiled a new vehicle that uses solar energy.

The car could even be enough to rob Tesla owner Elon Musk of his money.

California company Aptera claims its 27,000-pound vehicle can go for months without needing to be charged.

It addresses one of the biggest problems associated with a vehicle that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels.

Many potential buyers are put off by fear of running out of cargo during a trip.

The company has said the vehicle, its first-ever edition launched this month, can go up to 1,000 miles per charge.

Using the power of the sun alone, the car can travel up to 40 miles a day.

Engineers built solar panels into the car’s structure to make it even more energy efficient.

Inspired by fighter jets and racing cars, the company is made using artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D printing – which matches its sci-fi style.

The car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, the company has claimed.

“We’re harnessing the power of the sun to make off-grid life a reality for everyone,” the company said on its website.

“Our unique shape allows the Aptera to glide through the air using 30% of the energy compared to other electric and hybrid vehicles on the road today.”

The company promises buyers they can reduce their carbon footprint by over 14,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year.

The company has yet to hit the ground running after making its first 2,000 vehicles available to investors.
