The script for National Treasure 3 is in the works and will soon be sent to Nicolas Cage, according to Jerry Bruckheimer

The problem right now is that there are too many variables moving around to allow us to get too excited about it. First, Cage hasn’t seen the script and simply couldn’t make “National Treasure” without Benjamin Gates. Emphasis on the word “movie”, though, because Disney hasn’t let the franchise get dusty. Instead, the Mouse House opted to turn the adventure franchise into a Disney+ TV show titled “National Treasure: Edge of History.” As far as we know, Cage is not involved in the series. It’s clear that though the show will be tied to the movies as Justin Bartha will return as Riley Poole from the movies.

But the existence of the show doesn’t reduce the chances of another movie. The thing is, box office returns have been healthy again in 2022, and things are only expected to get better in 2023. Plus, the “National Treasure” movies do well, with first revenue $331 million worldwide, while “Book of Secrets” did even better with $457 million. Disney likes money and if there is money, they pull the trigger. Cage hasn’t expressed optimism about it yet, but who knows? Maybe his tone will change when he sees that scenario.

“National Treasure: Edge of History” is slated to premiere in 2023.
