The sequel to the Mortal Kombat movie made by New Line Cinema

New Line Cinema has continued with a sequel to the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie.

Over the termthe screenplay for the martial arts fantasy action film will be written by Jeremy Slater.


Slater’s writing credits include the Moon Knight series, the film Uprising, and Stephen King’s The Tommyknockers. He also develops The Umbrella Academy for Netflix and is the creator and co-presenter of The Exorcist on Fox.

As a reboot of the series, Mortal Kombat hits theaters internationally on April 8, 2021, before a US release on April 23 in theaters and in the HBO Max streaming service, and finally, is a rental service.

The film follows former MMA fighter Cole Young, whose hidden lineage threatens to prevent Outworld’s victory over Earthrealm. This is one of the reasons why Sub-Zero is on the hunt for him. Worried for his family, Cole joins Earth’s greatest warriors, who were chosen to defend Earthrealm against the Outworld.

Despite mixed reviews, the film grossed $83.6 million worldwide against a $55 million budget and is HBO Max’s most successful film to date.

The film is directed by Simon McQuoid, written by Greg Russo and Dave Callaham, and adapted from a story by Oren Uziel and Greg Russo. Of course, the film is based on the video game series of the same name created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.
