The skid ride at Winter Wonderland Hyde Park stops on viral TikTok

A TERRIFIC TikTok video has gone viral after the skid ride stopped at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, trapping two people inside.

Onlookers and those queuing for the ride were horrified as the incident unfolded last night (December 14).

A video, which has been viewed more than 33,800 times on TikTok and Twitter, shows two people preparing to ride inside a spherical metal capsule.

As the ride began to move and the passengers rose into the air, the mechanism appeared to stop, causing the capsule to crash into the ride’s support beam.

There are a number of other videos on TikTok and other social media platforms showing what happened.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said they were called to the popular Christmas attraction but “no action” was asked of them.

The couple on the drive were freed by on-site workers, according to the brigade.

A speaker for Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme said: “We can confirm that the elastic cord and steel wire rope that supports the reverse bungee gondola that the public sits in has not snapped or failed in any way.

“We inspected the ride at 7am this morning and found that there was a technical problem in a sealed gearbox that controls the release of the elastic cable and steel wire rope.

“The HSE has been informed.”

A spokesman for Hyde Park Winter Wonderland said: “We can confirm that a technical issue with the reverse bungee occurred on Wednesday evening.

“Both drivers were safely escorted from the drive, checked by our on-site paramedics and unharmed.

“Safety is our top priority and the ride is closed pending further investigations.

“All of our rides are subject to strict and regular safety checks by experienced staff who are trained in health and safety.

“We also provide regular training for all staff to ensure our visitors enjoy a fun and safe experience.

“All other attractions in Winter Wonderland work as usual.”

The full statement from the London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters were called to Winter Wonderland last night when two people were trapped in a bungee wagon.

“They were freed by on-site staff and the brigade didn’t have to do anything.” The skid ride at Winter Wonderland Hyde Park stops on viral TikTok
