There are few sounds as annoying as someone snoring next to you when you try to fall asleep.

“Sleeping on your back can often lead to increased snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Your jaw, tongue, and other soft tissues collapse in your neck when you lie on your back.
“The collapsed soft tissue narrows your airway and makes it difficult to breathe, leading to snoring.”
Sleeping on your stomach can also lead to snoring and sleep apnea, as well as leading to breathing difficulties in other ways.
Kiera said, “Those who sleep on their stomachs often misalign their cervical spine because they have to twist their neck to the side to breathe.”
In addition, sleeping on your side can also lead to better digestion as it prevents stomach acid from rising and keeps the stomach contents “in place”.
Kiera added, “When you lie flat on your stomach or back, your stomach’s acid can flow up into your esophagus and cause damage.
“However, lying on your side ensures that gravity stops your stomach acid from flowing up. Digestive problems that arise from side sleeping can be prevented or treated heartburn and acid reflux.”
Another benefit is that it can help remove toxins from the brain, as your sleeping position can affect the effectiveness of the body’s waste system known as the glymphatic system.
