It’s even someone’s job to curate the perfect playlist to set the mood for the flight.

David Scotland is product manager for inflight entertainment and connectivity at Alaska Airlines.

He said The Washington Post all about the importance of pre-takeoff music.

David said: “I just love making different playlists for different moods. It must not contain too many pauses, it must not be too quiet or too loud.

“We don’t want the music to be the focus at any point during the boarding process. We don’t want her to be a distraction. It has to complement what is happening in the aircraft environment.”

Another thing that pre-flight music curators need to consider is repetitive choruses, with David explaining that there have been instances of cabin crew complaining after hearing the same songs repeatedly.

While trying to avoid techno-pop, classical music, or top 40 hits, airlines switch music genres between seasons.

In winter there is usually a more relaxed soundtrack, while in summer the pre-flight music is more upbeat.

Anyone lucky enough to jet off for a Christmas holidays you can expect to hear some festive favorites too.

A spokesman for Hawaiian Airlines revealed how they play music that will get vacationers excited about their vacation.

Alisa Onishi explained, “With the Hawaiian music playing in the background, they automatically feel the aloha spirit and prepare for their trip to Hawaii or reflect on the last hours of their Hawaiian vacation on the journey home.”

Hawaiian Airlines only updates their playlist every three to five years, while Alaska Airlines changes their playlists every two months.
