England’s dream of Euro 2022 became a reality when Chloe Kelly went into extra time and the Lionesses beat Germany 2-1 to lift the first major trophy in their history in front of a record-breaking crowd at Wembley Stadium.

Kelly pushed the ball past Merle Frohms in the 110th minute to restore the tournament hosts’ lead after Lina Magull canceled out substitute Ella Toone’s opening goal with 11 minutes remaining.

At the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, three cyclists and two spectators were injured in a horrific fall during qualification for the men’s scratch race, while swimmer Adam Peaty suffered a shock defeat in the 100m breaststroke.
