The “squeamish” former state pathologist Marie Cassidy wanted to shoot Dancing with the Stars

She’s performed thousands of autopsies and dealt with hundreds of murders – but Professor Marie Cassidy isn’t as strict as you might think.

peak on the Sunday independent This weekend, Ireland’s former state pathologist said: “You’ll probably laugh, but I don’t like watching true crimes because I’m terribly squeamish,” she said.

Prof. Cassidy, who is the latest candidate to join this year’s Dancing with the starsHe said, “Look, I’ve never dealt with living people who are suffering. I’ve looked at the aftermath – which is very different and requires a different way of thinking.

“When I see violence on TV, I can’t deal with it. I find it cruel.

“I know it’s very strange, I know it’s strange. I’ve spent 40 years living the last two minutes of people’s lives and imagining what could have happened to them and how they became one of my patients.

“But I found it difficult when I worked in accident and emergency rooms, because once people started explaining what happened to them – and why they walked in with their fingers in a plastic bag – I had to have a little sit down.” “

When asked if her job as a state pathologist would be easier because the person was no longer suffering, she said, “Exactly. I can be there to pick up the pieces.”

Prof Cassidy will join 10 other contestants, including Panti Bliss (aka Rory O’Neill), Paul Brogan and Suzanne Jackson, as they speak for the hit series on RTÉ One on Sunday nights this January.

She also revealed an unusual coping strategy while working as a pathologist

“Glam became my armor because you take on a personality when you get involved in this type of work.

“And my personality was the heels and the lipstick. It was my professional face – and off we went.

“The other thing was that given the all-consuming nature of the job, I didn’t have much of a social life.

“The way people dress to go out on a Saturday night, I’d kind of be like, ‘Well, this is the best thing there can be – a rainy Wednesday in Limerick – so let’s just get dressed and go for it.'” The “squeamish” former state pathologist Marie Cassidy wanted to shoot Dancing with the Stars
