The Targaryen family tree on Dragon’s House is a confusing mess, and that’s perfect

To keep viewers from getting too confused, the folks at HBO created a interactive family tree for the Targaryens in “House of the Dragon”, but don’t expect it to be any less confusing. In the end, Rhaenyra only betrothed her two eldest sons to the daughters of her current husband Daemon. If her sons were indeed Laenor’s, it would be even stranger since Daemon’s daughters were Laena’s, Laenor’s older sister, but it’s probably easiest to accept that this family tree is like a telephone pole and so on.

All this bad behavior and frenzied inbreeding means that the potential for wild card characters grows exponentially. When the Targaryens are born, they say that the gods flip a coin and the child is given brilliance or madness, and, well, a lot of madness happens in “House of the Dragon.” Alicent’s kids are total villains, with the raping alcoholic Aegon, the actual anime character Aemond, and Helaena the giggling bug girl. Aegon and Helaena will spawn, friends, and their babies will go on to create more Targaryens! Maybe it was a good thing that they wiped each other out in the end.

New episodes of “House of the Dragon” premiere every Sunday on HBO and HBO Max. The Targaryen family tree on Dragon’s House is a confusing mess, and that’s perfect
