In a video shared on YouTube, the man revealed some of the telltale signs someone could easily gain access to your hotel room without needing a key card.

YouTube users LockpickingLawyer warned guests to be on the lookout for issues like “locks installed incorrectly or upside down” so they can alert the hotel to the potential risk to their personal belongings.

Other things that could cause problems are “false strike plates” which are on the inside of the door frame surrounding the latch.

If these are not installed correctly, the door could be opened easily.

“Wrong distance” is another issue he revealed in his video as he tried to enter the room he was in at the time.

He said in the video while staying at the Marriott Hotelhe noted that the “double doors were not installed properly and were too far apart and the deadbolt switch did not fully engage”.

He grabbed the handle of the door to show that it was locked and he couldn’t open it.

He then grabbed the do not disturb sign on the door before sliding it between the large gap between the door and the frame.

While using the plastic shield and holding the handlehe managed to break the locking mechanism to get into the room in seconds without needing a key card.

The YouTube user said he informed the hotel of the issue and hoped it would be fixed to improve the safety of other guests in the room.

Another remarked: “Crikey!! If I went to a hotel and saw a door like this I certainly wouldn’t stay in this room!!”

The LockPickingLawyer often shows how easy it is to pick locks,

Another video showed guests how to get into a hotel room safe by using the 999999 security mechanism.

That is often used by hotel staff to get into a vault for security, but can easily be used by opportunists if they know the code.

By entering the code and clicking the lock button, the safe will pop open without the need for a PIN.
