One plumber suggested that leaving your heating on for long periods of time could actually save you money.
That average annual household electricity bill rose from £1,971 to a frozen £2,500 from 1 October under the government’s recently announced energy price guarantee.
According to the Government, the typical bill for a single-family home under the price freeze is £3,330, £2,650 for a typical semi-detached house and £1,750 for someone living in purpose-built housing.
It’s one of many ways Brits will stretch their finances further this winter amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
When people look for ways to cut costs, @FrazerHöhlea plumber who runs his own business shares tips with more than 100,000 followers on TikTok.
Though his tip doesn’t work for all homes, Frazer suggests some people could save money by always running the heater at a more cost-effective temperature.
It all boils down to misunderstandings about how long certain systems take to both heat up and cool down and how much energy is being used.

Some tips to save money when heating your home.
He said: “That’s a pretty big question to debate – how you should adjust your heating.
“A lot of people schedule their heating to come on at a certain temperature or time.
“In my opinion, the most cost-effective way to heat my home is to set a target temperature between 17 and 19 degrees.
“If it goes down about a degree, it bumps up and heats it up.
“But at this point the heating system is already warm and therefore consumes very little energy.
“If your heater keeps turning on, it’s always cooling down and it takes more energy to bring it back up to temperature.
“But you could have it at a comfortable comfortable temperature all the time.”
As Frazer clarifies, the tip doesn’t work for all households and may vary depending on your cooking system.
If you’re unsure if this advice will work for you, it may be worth checking with a local expert or plumber to see if it would work based on your home system.
