In one of the most technically challenging games of all time, we follow the cowboy Arthur Morgan on his journey through a vast Wild West.

That sequel alone, despite its young age and the fact that it was only released once, has sold more than 44 million copies worldwide.

9. Terrariums

While Minecraft is best known among block-building sandboxes, Terraria did it first.

In a 2D world you must build and fight your way out of a series of tricky situations.

Created and supported by a small team of developers, Terraria is still receiving updates 11 years after its initial release.

With 44.5 million copies sold, it sits just ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2 on our bestseller list.

8. Pokemon Red/Blue

Almost everyone had a copy of Pokémon as a child, and many even had two or three in the four first-generation versions.

Ports to Nintendo’s 3DS virtual console have meant that these Pokémon games have continued to sell 27 years after the first games were released.

The series’ popularity has exploded with dozens of spin-off games and merchandise for its cast of over a thousand beasts.

Although four versions of the same game may seem like a scam, these games combined have sold more than 47.5 million copies.

7. Mario Kart 8

Speaking of multi-version games, Mario Kart 8 and its updated version for Nintendo Switch are among the best-selling games of all time.

By choosing to update the game with new courses rather than developing a new game in the series, it has continued to sell well.

Last year, Nintendo announced that it intends to double the number of tracks on the eight-year-old kart racer, meaning sales should remain strong.

To date, Mario Kart 8 has sold almost 54 million copies on Switch and WiiU.

6. Super Mario Bros.

When people think of video games, Super Mario Bros is often one of the first series that comes to mind.

The Mario franchise is one of the most popular in the entire gaming world, and the first successful game in the series was Super Mario Bros. for the NES.

The cartridge came bundled with many consoles sold alongside Duck Hunt in the west, boosting sales.

One of the oldest games on the list, having been released in 1985, Mario has stood the test of time and sold 58 million copies.

5. PUBG: Battlegrounds

Before it went free to play this year, PUBG: Battlegrounds was one of the best-selling games of all time.

As one of the first games in the battle royale genre, it is often credited as one of the games that sparked its popularity.

Over the years it has been ported and released on almost every platform imaginable, from mobile to PS5.

This diversity has resulted in sales of over 75 million copies worldwide.

4. Wii Sports

Mario gained popularity after it was packaged with the NES, and the inclusion of Wii Sports in Wii sales helped the console become a bestseller for Nintendo.

The gameplay was aimed at everyone and was fun for both news gamers and longtime fans alike.

People enjoyed designing their own characters and teaming up with family and friends.

With almost 83 million copies sold worldwide, it is Nintendo’s best-selling game of all time.

3. Tetris

Not only is Tetris the oldest game on the list, but it was also developed by just one person and is the third best-selling game of all time.

There are several different versions available, released for a whole range of different consoles, with EA’s version being the best selling.

Tetris is a classic game. Almost everyone has tried to line up the falling puzzle blocks.

EA’s game has sold over 100 million copies, and Nintendo’s second most popular version has sold over 43 million copies, an impressive sales record.

2. Grand Theft Auto 5

Those who were around when Grand Theft Auto 5 came out will remember how excited people were at the release.

Released in 2013, five years after the fourth installment in the series, fans have been hungry for more of Rockstar’s heist car games.

The studio has extended its lifespan to three generations of consoles and introduced a popular live service release that keeps it relevant.

To date, GTA V has sold over 165 million copies and will continue to be updated with even more content.

1. Minecraft

Not only a game that continues to be heavily updated, but also one developed by one person.
