Aidan Moffitt’s funeral is set to take place at 12 noon on Easter Monday.
r Moffitt was found dead at his home in Cartron Heights in the town of Sligo at 8.30pm last Monday.
The financial adviser, originally from Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon, has lived in Cartron Heights in Sligo for the last few years.
Mr Moffitt’s funeral service will be held at Christ the King Church, Lisacul, Co Roscommon on Monday, followed by a burial at Lisacul Cemetery.
A note on RIP.ie said the peace commissioner, who had played a leading role in the Fine Gael Partying on site, will be “sadly missed and remembered with heartbroken love by his family”.
The message read: “Sadly missed and loved by his heartbroken family, mother Kathleen, sister Sharon, brothers Christy and Gerard, niece Laura, nephews Keith and Daniel, sister-in-law Adrienne, brother-in-law Sean, uncle Junior, godmother Mary, relatives, Neighbors, colleagues and a large circle of friends.”
Mr Moffitt’s move from the Sharkey Funeral Home in Ballaghaderreen, where he will rest from 4pm to 7pm on Easter Sunday, is due to take place at Christ the King Church on Monday at 11.30am.
Separately, Michael Snee will be buried next week alongside his mother in the parish of St Joseph’s, Ballytivnan, which includes the Cartron area where he grew up.
Vigils are to be held across the country this weekend following the tragic deaths of the two men, with thousands of people expected to show solidarity and support for those affected.
Among the vigils is one tonight at 6pm in Sligo at Town Hall. A vigil is to be held in Dublin at the same time on the Dáil.
In Galway, those who remember the two men are being asked to gather in Eyre Square at 7pm tomorrow.
Smaller events are held across the country for people who might wish to pay their respects.
fingal Green party Councilor Karen Power is holding a vigil in Skerries, Co Dublin at 6pm today for those unable to make the vigil in the Dáil.
“I’ve been absolutely devastated by what has happened over the past week and it has really struck me that we haven’t gotten as far as we need to, not even close,” the councilman said.
