Dzhambulat became a wrestler in his native Russia after shooting to fame at the age of 3, when he was hailed as the strongest and heaviest kid on the planet, at 7.8lbs.

At the age of 6, the boy was nicknamed Gladiator by his classmates, weighed 15 stone and wore men’s size 10 shoes.

It wasn’t long before his incredible physique made headlines around the world and he was into sumo wrestling, becoming something of a celebrity in Japan.

But while he’s become a newcomer, concern is growing about whether such a heavy baby is healthy.

Soon after, the media called him “the fattest kid in the world”.

In 2009, he was examined by British doctor Ian Campbell, who warned that the boy’s health was very serious.

He said: “His weight means he has a hugely increased risk of diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

“Due to being so young and so heavy, his life expectancy may be greatly reduced.”

During this time, the boy’s mother, Nelya, a nurse, countered that she had neglected her child’s health.

“He’s just growing – upward and outward. What can I do with that? This is who he is, this is how God made him,” she said.

At birth he weighed about the usual 6lb 6oz, but by his first birthday he was already two stone heavier.

As a kid, his prams required reinforced wheels after five broke.

But his mother said that doctors could not find any medical problems causing his excess weight.

“We went through many different exams. Every doctor wants to find something to explain why Jambik is so big,” she said at the time.

“None of them discovered anything. When he was 5 years old, I took him to clinics in Moscow where we did all the available tests, organ scans and tests. hormone test.

“But these things show that he is completely healthy and that his heart, liver and everything else is proportional to his size. They said he was fine so I wasn’t worried. I believe he will live a long and happy life.”

She angrily denies putting him on steroids, but encourages him to be called “the strongest guy in the world”.

She responded to her critics: “Do people think I’m a murderer? Can they really suggest that a mother can do this to her child?

“Look at his medical records.

“Do they think I started giving him steroids when he was two months old? It’s illogical. I love my son and I will not do anything to harm his health.”

When he was young, his mother said, “He loved to show people how strong he was.

“It makes him a kind of superhero, a giant who can protect and care for everyone around him. He likes to lift me or my brother around. “

When she was 6 years old, she said: “He eats normal portions, just like his brother.

“He could have asked for more if he was really hungry but I have never noticed him eating unusually much.

“Maybe he ate a little more than other kids his age, but he was bigger than them even though he never ate more than an adult man.

“I can’t say how it happened. He just kept getting bigger – top to bottom. God made him that way.”

By day 17, Dzhambulat had risen to 36th place.

Despite the popularity and notoriety, he heeded the warnings of the doctors and decided to lose weight.

In less than a year, he lost his 8th.

Sadly, he fought in vain to lose the rest and at the age of 21 he died suddenly.
