Toad has developed a hit product over the years, with fans recording a lot pop song cover with his shrill voice. Undeniably placing Toad as the loveliest design in the entire series combined with his explosive monstrous personality has made him one of the most beloved characters of all time. Keegan-Michael Key has been completely focused on what makes Toad so loved, finding the perfect balance between fun excitement and “OH MY GOD THE WORLD IS ENDING” panic. Toad isn’t a Chicken Little character, but the guy definitely has a prescription for Xanax in his castle cupboard. While my preference will always be in favor of retaining the original voice actors, Keegan-Michael Key is more than just a worthy successor to the role. He got it!
What’s also interesting is the possibility that Key will voice not only the Toad character, but all the other Toads in the Mushroom Kingdom. The Poster Nintendo shared on Twitter a few days previously saw a toad walking around the village yard, leading many to believe that Key would voice them all. Whether each Toad will have its own personality is yet to be seen, but it would be totally hilarious if Key just used the same voice for each Toad.
Damn, let him voice Toadette. If Jen Taylor can do both, so can he.
