The UCD Smurfit Business Journalism Awards offer a new award for women

UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School has opened this year’s annual Business Journalist Awards for Contributions. The Bank of Ireland has returned as a sponsor for the awards, now in their 15th year and open to journalists from all media.

The new Women in Business Journalism Award is intended to honor female role models in journalism in particular.

Other categories include Business News Story of the Year, Audio Story, Business Feature, Business Analyst, Business Interview and Upcoming Journalist of the Year.

A jury from science, industry and journalism, chaired by Breege O’Donoghue, decides on the award.

The winners each receive a prize of €1,000. Registrations are due by September 8th.

The Dean of the UCD College of Business, Prof Anthony Brabazon, said that in a world of interconnected events: “Business journalists play an essential role in helping us to understand how these events impact not only business, but also on how society functions and chooses to move forward. The expertise needed to analyze and report with clarity and integrity has never been more important.”

Oliver Wall, Bank of Ireland’s Head of Group Corporate Affairs, said: “Quality business journalism is a crucial part of a thriving business community so it is important that we recognize those who excel in their profession.”
