The Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Wednesday that more than 180 Russian soldiers have been killed in the ongoing war in the past 24 hours.
Kiev officials also said the country’s military forced Moscow troops to withdraw with casualties on the Kharkiv, Avdiivka and Bakhmut fronts.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine wrote on Facebook that a Russian reconnaissance group on the Sloviansk front had also been neutralized. Total combat losses by Russian forces since the war began on February 24 include the deaths of more than 41,300 enemy soldiers. According to the statement, Russian troops on the Bakhmut and Donetsk fronts suffered the most.
“Beat the occupiers! Together we will win! Our strength lies in the truth! Beat the occupiers! Let’s win together! Our strength lies in the truth!” the statement completed.
Meanwhile, Russian forces hit several districts in northeastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv region overnight, the region’s governor said on his Telegram channel.
“Residential and commercial buildings were damaged,” said Oleh Sinegubov. So far, however, no casualties have been reported. Sinegubov also said Russian soldiers tried to advance into Dementiivka and Kochubeivka, both towns on the border with Russia. But they failed as Ukrainian forces pushed them back, Al Jazeera reported.
International business hours could not independently verify these claims.
Tensions have risen as the war in Ukraine has dragged on, with Russia recently accusing the United States of being directly involved in the conflict. Russia’s Defense Ministry said Washington is not only supplying Kyiv with weapons, but the country’s intelligence officials are interacting with their Ukrainian counterparts before Kiev forces carry out attacks on Russian troops.
“All of this provides indisputable evidence that contrary to claims by the White House and the Pentagon, Washington is directly implicated in the conflict in Ukraine,” Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a statement. “It is the Biden government that is directly responsible for all of the Kyiv-authorized rocket attacks on residential areas and civilian infrastructure in populated areas of the Donbass and other regions that have resulted in mass civilian deaths.”
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said last week that Russia had failed in “many areas” in its war in Ukraine, and hinted that Vladimir Putin could be plotting a new strategy.
“The Russians are failing on the ground in many areas right now…Putin’s Plans A, B and C have failed and he may be looking at Plan D,” Wallace said at the time.
