The Ukrainian army destroyed a Russian ammunition dump and more than a dozen war implements, while Kyiv continues to gain ground in its counter-offensives, authorities said.
Ukrainian soldiers on Saturday destroyed the ammunition dump in the area of the settlement of Tavriyske in the Kherson region. According to a report by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF), Ukrainians also successfully attacked and destroyed seven Russian tanks and up to 10 vehicles in the Chernivtsi region of Zaporizhia Krai.
In addition to Saturday’s gains, the Ukrainian army on Sunday successfully attacked five Russian command posts, three warehouses with Russian army ammunition and fuel and 14 areas where Russian troops, weapons and military equipment were located.
Ukraine’s armed forces also repulsed attempts by the Russian military to advance into a number of settlements, including Zaytseve, Bakhmutske, Bakhmut, Odradivka, Pervomaiske, Spirne and Vyimka.
The UAF General Staff did not say how many Russian soldiers were killed over the weekend. However, the military death toll in Russia is estimated at 60,110, according to the Defense Ministry of Ukraine.
The UAF General Staff report comes as Ukraine continues to make gains in its counter-offensives. On Saturday, Russia announced it would withdraw its troops from the eastern city of Lyman “to more advantageous lines.”
“Due to the risk of being encircled, allied forces were withdrawn from Krasny Liman to more advantageous borders,” Russia’s Defense Ministry said in a Telegram post.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi officially declared Lyman completely “liberated from the Russian occupiers”. Sunday.
Lyman had served as a key link in both ground communications and logistics between Russian troops stationed in Kharkiv and Donetsk.
Ukraine’s recapture of the town of Lyman could add to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s repeated threats in recent days that suggest he is prepared to use even nuclear weapons to defend areas he considers part of Russia, including the annexed Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Donetsk to the east and Kherson and Zaporizhia to the south. The territories were illegally annexed in local “referendums” on Friday, some of which were held at gunpoint, according to Human Rights Watch.
