The Kalush Orchestra received a warm welcome at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) with members of the audience waving Ukrainian flags as they made their way onto the stage.

The group is supported by dancers wearing lead singer Oleg Psyuk’s signature pink bucket hats.
Traditional designs of the war-torn country and an image of a raised and clenched hand were shown on stage.
Before the show, Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi, who is hosting the show with her partner Rita Ora, said the group wore costumes “that date back thousands of years.”
He describes their music as “bringing hip hop inspiration into traditional Ukrainian folk music”.
Ora added: “Together with the winners from all over the world, we would like to welcome them from Kyiv, Ukraine – the Kalush Orchestra.”
Speaking earlier on the red carpet, Psyuk told the PA news agency “culture is one of our weapons” in the fight against Russia “so today we are soldiers embodying the culture of Ukraine.” “.
The group has been the international spokesperson for the war effort in Ukraine since winning at Eurovision in May.
They have since raised over £700,000 for the Ukrainian army by auctioning their crystal microphone trophy, and are going on tour with a portion of the proceeds going towards relief efforts back home. .
