The upcoming horror game The Chant will only be released for PC and next-gen consoles

The singing is an upcoming horror game set to explore the dark side of spirituality. Set in a spiritual retreat, the third-person horror will require players to fight their way through to survive when things go wrong. You are expected to fight your way out of retreat and escape the psychedelic horrors and cosmic terror that ensue when a ritual goes awry.

Sounds like an interesting take, right? Well, I have bad news for Xbox One and PS4 players. According to a recent press release, it appears that The Chant may not be coming to consoles. Previously, Brass Token stated that the game will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series S | X, PS4, PS4 and PC would be released, but the latest press release made no mention of the current-gen consoles.

After Gematsu tweeted this, @TheChantGame responded, “At this stage, we are focusing on Gen 9 and PC to ensure they meet the highest quality standards. News on Gen 8 versions will follow in the near future.”

Whether that means the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game have been temporarily shelved or scrapped altogether, we can’t say for sure just yet.

That the Xbox One and PS4 release will appear to be ending isn’t welcome news for everyone, but The Chant isn’t the first to have done so. WB Games recently announced that Gotham Knights will only appear on next-gen consoles and PC. Gotham Knights and The Chant will likely be the first of more as developers continue to push boundaries in terms of graphics and performance – boundaries that Gen 8 consoles can’t seem to live up to.

There’s still hope that when Brass Token shares its news regarding the Gen 8 versions, we’ll still see The Chant on Xbox One and PS4 – but that’s when we’re particularly hopeful. For those playing on PS5, Xbox Series S|X or PC, The Chant will be released in October 2022. The upcoming horror game The Chant will only be released for PC and next-gen consoles
