A grieving loved one committed suicide by David Fuller’s morgue abuse campaign.
The death means that at least three people have lost their lives to his crimes – in which he murdered two young women before burying their bodies at the two hospitals where he worked.
The 67-year-old necromancer, dubbed the Morgue Monster, was jailed for life in December and will never be released.
Now, a whistleblower has revealed a family member of one of more than 100 dead women and girls he abused took their own lives.
Insiders have also told of how bosses were urged to install CCTV in the morgue a year before Fuller’s arrest – but the request was denied due to cost.
And some sexual assaults were carried out before autopsies were performed – meaning signs were missed by pathologists.
Ministers have launched an independent investigation led by former chief medical officer Sir Jonathan Michael. But relatives of the victims have begun legal proceedings to force a full public investigation.
“It’s a national scandal,” said Ben Davey, who represents dozens of them. Fuller has been able to commit these offenses for such a long time.
“Violations of such magnitude warrant a full and uncompromising investigation – something this investigation fails to do.
“We needed to fully test the facts without worrying about avoiding embarrassment for those who failed to do the proper checks on Fuller.” The monster tormented corpses for 12 years and Mr. Davey pointed out he would probably never have been caught had he not been crucified for two unsolved sex murders.
Fuller strangled and sexually assaulted Wendy Knell, 25, and Caroline Pierce, 20, of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in 1987 – the so-called Bedsit Murders.
After a DNA breakthrough in 2020, police raided his home in Heathfield, East Sussex, and found a hard drive containing more than 14 million sad sex offender images.
They included images of him abusing corpses in the hospital where he was an electrician.
Among these were a nine-year-old girl, two 16-year-old boys and a 100-year-old woman.
The married father of four has worked at Kent and Sussex Hospital, Tunbridge Wells, since 1989 then moved to Tunbridge Wells Hospital in 2010.
The Department of Health said: “We are taking action to make sure something like this never happens again.
“We believe this non-statutory investigation will help us understand as quickly as possible how these violations went undetected, identifying any areas that need action. early and look at broader issues.”
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust said: “The trust continues to support the families affected by Fuller’s horrific crimes and fully cooperates with the independent investigation.”
