The Weird Reason Your Penis Is Shaped Like A Mushroom

THE penis comes in all shapes and sizes – but there’s a surprising reason the end is mushroom-shaped.

Scientists claim it’s an evolutionary design that’s coming back infidelity.

To consider why the human penis looks the way it does, a team of scientists in New York conducted a series of experiments.

They first theorized that the head of the penis – which is more mushroom-shaped – is actually a “tool” to remove the seed of love rivals.

It’s enough to make you squirm, but it makes evolutionary sense.

Men wanted to make sure they were the ones carrying on their lineage – survival of the fittest, and all.

To ensure that they are the only semen in a woman, the crest that separates the head from the shaft, called the coronary crest, can help.

During penetration, it can help remove semen from the vagina.

The researchers, led by Professor Gordon Gallup of the State University of New York, put it bluntly.

your paper said: “If a female copulates with more than one male within a short period of time, this would allow subsequent males to ‘scoop out’ the semen left by others before ejaculation.”

The team put their theory to the test in 2003 using artificial genitalia and artificial sperm made from mixed starch and water.

In fact, the latex penis and its comb were able to scoop out more than 90 percent of the “seed” substitute with just one thrust.

A member without a ridge only managed to remove 35 percent of the semen.

The depth of thrusting was also important to clean the vagina.

Prof Gallup told the BBC: “We assume that as a result of competition for fatherhood, male humans have evolved uniquely configured penises that serve to force other men’s semen out of the vagina.

“So the human penis can allow men to replace their semen with the semen of their competitors.”

Cavemen versus modern man

While men’s penises haven’t changed since the dawn of time, sex and relationships certainly have.

The scooping mechanism would have been far more useful hundreds of thousands of years ago, when humans were far more engaged in reproduction.

However, our instinctive sexual desires and behaviors have remained the same in many ways.

The researchers said they found evidence in their research that men are still unknowingly using their penis as a “semen displacement device.”

Two surveys of around 500 college students – men and women – were conducted.

Participants recalled that sex with partners involved “deeper and more vigorous penile thrusting” when they had been separated or when the woman was suspected of cheating.

It casts doubt on the phrase “absence makes the heart beat faster,” but supports the researchers’ theory.

Prof Gallup said: “Under conditions that increase the risk of female infidelity, college students reported changes in sexual behavior that would serve to clear the vagina of foreign semen prior to ejaculation.”

Some experts said they thought the idea was flawed and didn’t serve as a strong explanation for why the penis is shaped the way it is.

There is no standard shape of penis and while most tips are mushroom-like, they can have a variety of differences.

Size, girth, angle or circumcision are among the factors that can cause men to have different looking penises.
