The woman gives birth to triplets two years apart

A couple have finally welcomed the third baby in a line of IVF (in vitro fertilization) triplets, four years after the first sibling was born.

aren and James Marks, from Taunton, Somerset, had their first child – a son named Cameron – four years ago. Their daughter Isabella followed two years later.

Now Karen has given birth to her latest triplet, a daughter named Gabriella.

The children are considered triplets because they were all conceived through IVF on the same day, at the same time, and with the same batch of embryos.

After Cameron was born in September 2018, the couple chose to have the remaining embryos frozen so they could later expand their family.

Isabella was born in September 2020 and Gabriella on July 3rd.

“It feels so great to now have all three of our children, we feel so incredibly fortunate,” Karen said.

“Some people go through IVF and sadly don’t even have a baby, and we managed to have three, so we just feel so lucky.

“Gabi was our last embryo, so now she is our last baby. I knew I wasn’t done before Gabi so I told my husband if it doesn’t work out then we’d better save up so we can have another one. I feel complete now, I’m so happy. My heart is very full.”

Around 390,000 babies have been born through IVF in the UK since records began in 1991, according to the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority.

Karen said the couple turned to IVF after trying for a year to conceive naturally but were unsuccessful.

“There’s no particular reason. I don’t ovulate regularly, that’s the main thing, but otherwise there’s no reason – we don’t have any diseases,” she explained.

The couple shared their story to encourage others to try IVF if they are struggling to conceive.

“Infertility never leaves you,” Karen said. “Pregnancy announcements can still be painful, especially when someone has seemingly conceived easily.

“It’s a struggle and a journey, and while part of me believes there’s a reason we’ve had to go through this, we’ve met so many wonderful people along the way.

“If you’ve exhausted all other options, then go ahead and do it. Don’t put it off or avoid it. It’s the most likely fertility treatment to work, and it worked for us.” The woman gives birth to triplets two years apart
